Urban Water Conservation

As a conservation ecologist, Amanda Brown finds inspiration and rejuvenation in walking Iowa’s rivers and streams, noting, “When you're in there [the stream], you really feel immersed in nature. Even in the middle of the city, you hear the brooks running or the water running over rocks, and it really drowns out all the other noise. It's really peaceful.” Her work with Polk Co. Conservation is focused on improving creeks, streams, and rivers across Iowa’s most populous county, interweaving land management practices, urban stormwater, and public education all in a day’s work.
