Nomination Criteria

Nominations for the inaugural New Voices in Water Quality Awards, announced in 2022, were based on the criteria below.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligible nominees:

  • Were living in Iowa at the time of nomination

  • Were 18 or older at the time of nomination

  • Have been actively working in water quality (on a paid or volunteer level), including some public outreach, since 2019 or earlier

  • Started water quality advocacy work no earlier than 2012

AWARD CATEGORIES

Nominations should indicate how the candidate has furthered water quality advocacy in one of the following categories. Iowa State University’s Conservation Learning Group wishes to celebrate all avenues of water quality advocacy and has therefore made the award categories intentionally broad:

  • Water Quality in Public Policy and Government

  • Water Quality and Wildlife

  • Water Quality Research, Engineering, and Design

  • Youth and/or Community Water Education

  • Urban Water Conservation

  • Emerging Voices

Nominees were evaluated based on their creativity, innovation, knowledge, sense of community, and future potential in water quality advocacy.
